When You Don’t Know Where to Start: Finding Peace in the Chaos
Right now, life feels like a whirlwind. I’m juggling school, work, family, and the complexities of marriage, all while trying to align myself with God and my best self. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, lost, or like you’re carrying the weight of too many things at once, I want you to know—you’re not alone.
But even in this season of uncertainty, I’m holding onto something beautiful: my relentless pursuit. It’s my heart’s desire to center myself in God, love deeply, and show up as the fullest version of myself. Some days, it feels impossible to take the first step. I don’t know up from down or where to even begin. But I’m learning that it’s okay to start small—really small.
This morning, I chose stillness. Just a few moments to breathe, reflect, and thank God for the relentless pursuit that keeps me going. It’s not about fixing everything all at once but surrendering each piece, one by one, and trusting that God is working in ways I cannot yet see.
"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10)
These words have anchored me, reminding me that I don’t need to have all the answers. I just need to show up—imperfect, overwhelmed, and tired—and let God take the lead.
When Harmony Becomes the Goal
I used to chase balance, thinking that if I could just give equal attention to everything—work, family, school, marriage, my faith—then I’d finally feel at peace. But the truth I’ve come to embrace is that balance isn’t always realistic. Life rarely weighs out evenly.
So now, I focus on harmony. Harmony allows for ebb and flow, giving space to the things that need my attention most in the moment while gently reminding me it’s okay if other areas take a back seat. It’s not about perfection or even distribution but about leaning into where I’m needed most and trusting God to guide me through the rest.
Some days, my family requires more of me. Other days, my spiritual connection or mental health takes priority. And that’s okay. Harmony isn’t about doing it all at once; it’s about doing what matters most in each moment and being at peace with what’s left undone.
"To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
This verse reminds me that life moves in rhythms. Some seasons are full of action, while others call for stillness or focus. Giving myself permission to flow with these rhythms has brought so much more peace.
How Awareness Transforms Time
One unexpected gift of leaning into presence is how it’s changed my perception of time. When I’m fully engaged—whether it’s listening to my child, sharing a meaningful moment with my husband, or sitting in stillness with God—it feels like time slows down. Those moments are richer and more meaningful, like I’m truly living in them instead of rushing past.
But I’ll admit, it’s not always easy to tap into that state. There are days when my mind refuses to settle, and I feel pulled in a million directions. In those moments, I give myself grace and use grounding tools to bring myself back to the present. It doesn’t always happen perfectly, but when it does, it feels like a small miracle—a reminder that even in the chaos, peace is within reach.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning."(Lamentations 3:22-23)
This verse is my lifeline on hard days. It reminds me that every moment is a fresh chance to return to presence, let God meet me where I am, and keep moving forward.
Deep Soul Work: Tools for Transformation
If you’re looking for ways to ground yourself and deepen your connection with God and your true self, here are a few tools that have been transformational for me:
Breath-Prayer Grounding
Pair your breath with a simple prayer. On your inhale, say, “Be still,” and on your exhale, “And know that I am God.” This can help quiet your mind and bring peace in moments of overwhelm.
Prioritize Connection Over Perfection
Instead of trying to do everything perfectly, focus on meaningful connection. Ask yourself: What needs my presence most right now? Then lean into it wholeheartedly.
Time Inventory Reflection
At the end of the day, reflect on where your time went. Write down one moment where you felt present and one where you felt scattered. This simple practice increases awareness and helps create more intentional moments.
Faith Journaling
Use a journal to pour out your heart to God. Write about your struggles, your gratitude, and where you need guidance. It’s a powerful way to process and find clarity.
Visualize God’s Hands
When overwhelmed, imagine placing all your worries, tasks, and relationships into God’s hands. This visualization can help release the pressure to carry everything alone.
Intentional Pause Rituals
Set a daily alarm to pause for 30 seconds. During this time, ask yourself: Am I present? Where is my focus? These small check-ins can create big shifts over time.
Let’s Walk Together
If you’re feeling restless or stuck, remember that you don’t have to figure it all out right now. Start small. Whether it’s a moment of stillness, a whispered prayer, or choosing gratitude for one thing in your life, know that you’re not alone in this journey.
For me, it’s gratitude for the lessons in the chaos, the chance to grow closer to God, and the beauty of harmony over balance. Let’s keep walking this road together, one step at a time.
